Circus Dogs Take Their Job Seriously

You may have enjoyed the circus dog act the last time you went to the circus and given little thought to how those clever dogs learned to do those neat tricks.

Well, circus dogs have been to school and they take their job very seriously. Some may take it more seriously than many humans do with their jobs!

The history of circus dogs has some interesting twists. Talk to anyone and he will almost invariably say circus dogs should be poodles. However, in the early days, the dogs used by such big shows as Ringling Brothers were most certainly not poodles.

Back then the dogs they train to perform were often strays or purchased from the pound.

Why? Well, it was generally believed that these mixed breed dogs were usually very intelligent. These dogs proved that they could learn tricks quickly.
