ALERT: Dangerous Strain Of Dog Flu Causes Concerns Across U.S.

Getting the flu is something no one ever wants to experience – did you know dogs can get the flu too? And right now – there’s a dangerous strain that’s spreading and causing dogs to get very ill.

Recently – a dog in Montana recently tested positive for a dangerous strain of the very contagious virus. And in Washington – the health department is warning pet owners after possible exposure at a Seattle shelter.

Last year, shelters in Chicago were forced to close their doors because they were at capacity due to the rapidly spreading illness and to prevent further contamination. The city has treated over 300 sick dogs with the flu.

No dogs have the immunity to fight off the virus – so once a dog becomes ill, they are unable to fight it off before spreading the virus elsewhere. When dogs go to daycare or to dog parks around this time of year – the virus can rapidly spread.
